The report shows that industry plans to build new coal-fired plants after 2020 contradict China's 2060 carbon neutrality target, and calls for a policy process to phase coal power out. Over the same ten years, the rate of wind and solar expansion needs to double if domestic emission targets are to be met.
Short- and medium-term plans to decarbonise the power sector before 2050 are the precondition for the 2060 objective, not an optional supplement to it.
