The column offers a logical, self-consistent reflection across several frameworks at once, on the grounds that different disciplines discuss the same issue in very different ways.
Its aim is not to build consensus by appeal to ideology, but to develop a system of value criteria for judging carbon neutrality — which reductions are desirable, which are less reasonable, and which are unacceptable. Neutrality by 2060 needs steady, sequenced effort rather than a one-stop campaign, and a harder question underneath: how to move from a known present to a future that is still stochastic.
The series was planned to be reorganised into a book, provisionally Carbon Neutral Fate: Six Approaches to Embrace Carbon Neutrality.
